It's not about bandwidth

Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 02:20:32 PM PDT

If it was an SQL injection attack they're screwed after the first attack.  If there was a vulnerability in the code of the site it wouldn't make a difference to put up the same vulnerable code from a backup.  It can take a week to review bad code and find the problem and rewrite it so it doesn't happen again, especially if it has to be done by someone new to the code, even someone competent.  If the email server is written into the site by the same person, as is often the case on a site where everything is web based, the email would go down for the count in the first punch as well.  It's not something you can turn on again because once a vulnerability is found its as if someone has a key to your site and you have to change all the locks.

BREAKING: over 1 million die by unknown attackers (seriously and sarcastic)

Sun Dec 18, 2005 at 05:27:00 AM PDT

Millions more expected to die in continued attacks.  The attackers and the reason for their aggression is yet unknown.  The Department of Homeland Security has not been able to ascertian the source of the weaponry, even with the advent of greatly increased border and port security, and wide blanketing covertly operated domestic surveilance, new powers granted under the Patriot Act, but it is believed that much of it has been secretly imported from foreign sources.  Despite the early success of Operation Desert Bait, attempts to keep foreign aggression directed towards troops in Iraq, at the projected cost of half a trillion dollars, infiltration of harmful agents has occurred stateside.  Secret foreign policy to assude the attackers, directed by the Department of State, using both the carrot and stick approach in the form of torture or increased oil profits has failed.

Watch the Houston Freeways KILL THOUSANDS.

HELP US HELP US HELP US

Thu Sep 22, 2005 at 08:47:15 AM PDT

I'm here in Houston.  I'm concentrating on preparing the house and we're almost done.  But I am seeing another challenge before me that I am more concerned about.

The transportation situation out of Houston is a disaster waiting to happen.  There is not enough gas to go around.  But what is worse is that cars have been stuck in traffic on the freeways for many many hours, and many of them are running out of fuel.

I think I am going to need help.  There are no fuel trucks enroute to help these vehicles on the freeways.  People are running out of gas and cars are overheating because without wind coming into the engine they aren't getting cooled properly.

I don't believe in the CONTRAFLOW plan they are putting in place on the freeways.   Houston has 3 freeways they are opening up both sides of the median to outbound only.  But the problem is that it is only going for about 70 miles at most (as well as I can determine) from Houston.

Music City

Sun Sep 04, 2005 at 02:42:32 AM PDT

Not that I would want to take away from any other Music centers of our country.  I see one thing that could help revive NO again is to build in some of the inevitable newly opened space a rather large park devoted to music festivals and concert forums.

SearchForLovedOnes

Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 03:45:58 PM PDT

I have just bought the domain name.

I was not aware that this was going on on Daily Kos.  I just looked in and discovered this.

I have purchased these domains today:

SearchForLovedOnes.com
SearchForLovedOnes.net
SearchForLovedOnes.org

I am creating a page now that lists search sites and phone numbers.  Please help me gather this information in this thread so that I can list them.

Dooooon't Yoooouu Believe It!!!

Take a very close look at who John Roberts has been hanging around with for the past 25 years.  He goes back to Bush Sr. and Reagan.  He goes far back with the Republicans currently in power.  Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Bush Jr. et al have surely ran into this guy in the halls of the White House.

The Deep Right has been working towards this for some 25 years from what I understand:

Public Broadcasting Funding

Thu Jun 23, 2005 at 09:00:39 AM PDT

Ok, I feel slightly mislead.  According to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Website, the CPB accounts for only 15% of their Funds.  If it is cut by 25% this means only a 4% loss of funds.

http://www.cpb.org/pubcast/#who_pays

Can anyone explain why this will hurt PBS and NPR so extremely as claimed?

Was Public Broadcasting Financing Restored?

Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 11:38:09 AM PDT

I called my Congressman Culberson about PB financing and was asked who was giving me the information about the cuts being proposed.  I was told that the information was incorrect, and that funding was restored this past Monday, I think 80 Million.

The Yellow Ribbon Has Been Stolen

Mon May 02, 2005 at 01:09:46 PM PDT

And you didn't even notice.

Those magnetic "Support Our Troops" ribbons are on the backs and sides of cars everywhere.  But we're they created by a Republican businessman?  I seem to have read or seen that somewhere.

The Yellow Ribbon was supposed to be one tied around an "old oak tree".  You know... like the song?  But that song was about bringing somebody home.  The ribbon was a "Bring Them Home" ribbon.

Bush is a Flip Flopper! First he was for...

Tue Mar 29, 2005 at 07:14:11 PM PDT

pulling the plug.  Now he is against it.
Found a great article from a great Texas attorney who also publishes to the San Antonio Express-News.  This is the clearest I've seen it.  Nothing but Net ... facts.

Federal Action re Schiavo Contradicts
Texas Law Signed by Bush

I would love to quote the guy, but I don't know if it is ok to take the whole thing and put it on Kos in a block.  Especially since it has a copyright.

Hold the Line!

Wed Mar 09, 2005 at 09:50:21 AM PDT

I said this once before.  Sorry, but noone yet gets it.

Number        Population Represented    Percentage    Actual Votes    Percentage
Republicans    55        137,778,799              49.06%    58,374,445    20.78%
Democrats    44          142,519,744              50.75%    61,662,075    21.96%

By vote and by representation Democrats represent a slight majority of Americans in the Senate, even though they only have 44% of the seats.

The Senate Un-Mandate

Thu Mar 03, 2005 at 12:54:47 AM PDT

After reading the the eloquent speech given by Senator Byrd to the Senate refered to in another post about cloture, judiciary nominations, and nucular weapons, I decided to figure out how much of a majority the Republicans really do have in the Senate.

The answer is...

It's not really their country... or Gods

Tue Feb 08, 2005 at 04:14:16 PM PDT

I did a little work getting some information together to respond to someone I am debating in private forum a long long way from here.  Thought some here might find it interesting.  Thanks much to www.deism.org (althought I'm not a totally signed subscriber to those views either)

So I say:

The only time I have a problem with Religeon is when they try to mix it with our Government. One of the PRIMARY reasons why people came to this country even before it was founded was to get out from under King George forcing everyone to believe the same way he did. When you have a conservative christain clan of politicians who think only their way of believing is the right way and intend to change as much of the government to reflect their religious beliefs as possible, you're going to have a fight on your hands.

So he says:

I need some numbers folks

Mon Feb 07, 2005 at 01:27:05 PM PDT

I'm in a discussion with some wing-nut friends about SS.  I have seen some numbers on the 2 Trillion loan once on Kos and how it really doesn't work out in the end unless the market performs like a race horse for the next 50 years.  Does anyone have that post or can lead me to those numbers?  I don't really have time to find them myself, and I could change a few minds here If I could see them again.

Also, I'm being called a radical and communist etc just for pointing out how many European countries have a better quality of life than ours do now.  I can't believe the arrogance and self-righteousness of some people... blind faith that America can never go wrong.  We're falling behind across the board, or at least the great leveling is happening, but they insist that noones way could be right except what we come up with here in America.  Bleah.

Some verifiable numbers would really help right now.

How can I see more recommended diaries?

Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 12:07:30 PM PDT

I'm a busy guy.  I don't have time to read every diary or comment every day.  I often feel like I'm missing alot.  I only have somewhere around 8-10 recommended diaries showing up here.  Is there a way for me to see recommended diaries that don't get enough recommends to make it to that list?
If not, I think a variable to control such as view x recommended diaries, or view comments from highly recommended people would be a valuable addition.

I could have had *all* of your credit card numbers.

Thu Nov 04, 2004 at 10:48:46 PM PDT

Years ago I worked in the "command center" for a company that was the first to enable electronic funds transfers between banks, ATM (Automated Teller Machines) and POS (Point of Sale) devices.  The building had no address on it, and could not be seen by the road.  There were two alternative locations; one about 100 miles away, and another at some mysterious location noone was ever told where.  We were told we would be flown there "in case something happened to the other two" to keep the networks up.  The backups to these two sites run real-time.

Fortress America: Be a Sapper!

Thu Nov 04, 2004 at 12:53:20 PM PDT

"A sapper, in the sense first used by the French military, was one who sapped another's fortifications. A sapper is an individual in military service, often called a military engineer nowadays, who may perform any of a variety of tasks under combat conditions. Such tasks typically include bridge and road construction, mine laying, or detection and clearing. In other words, the sapper's tasks now involve facilitating movement of allied forces and impeding movement of the enemy's.
Sapping, or undermining, was a siege method used in the Middle Ages against fortified castles."
